Baraat Dresses with Heavy Dabka and Zari Work

Baraat, also spelt Barat, bridalwear often uses dense handwork such as dabka, zari and nakshi, and ours is cut and stitched in our own workshops only once you order, in a standard size or to your measurements. Red and maroon are the classic colour direction, while ivory, gold and soft pastels offer lighter alternatives. Compare the designs available in the grid, or browse a farshi lehenga for a longer-shirt silhouette. Order online, or send us the design on WhatsApp at +44 7362 049420 to talk through measurements or a change first.

Choosing the cut for your Baraat

The cut decides how you handle the dress on the day, so settle it before the colour. A lehenga choli pairs a fitted top, short or floor-length, with a skirt cut from 12 or 14 kalis, or panels, over a cancan layer that holds the flare out; with no trail, there is no trailing hem behind you to manage. A farshi lehenga is worn with a longer shirt over a circular ghera that pools on the floor and often includes a trail, so allow extra handling on stairs if the design has one. A farshi gharara opens from a gathered joint into a floor-length flare. A pishwas or an open gown over a lehenga gives one unbroken line from shoulder to hem, while a closed bridal gown creates another full-length option.

Colours, fabric and handwork

Classic Baraat shades include red, deep red and maroon with gold work, with burgundy, wine and rust close to them. Lighter directions include ivory, gold, silver, baby pink and ice blue. If red is settled, our red and maroon bridal lehengas gather those shades in one place. Embroidery colours used across Baraat bridal designs include gold, antique gold, rose gold, silver, antique silver, copper, multicolour and tonal thread, so the same base colour can read warm or cool.

Baraat bridal handwork can combine dabka, zari, nakshi, kora and salma sitara with sequins and pearls, while some designs also use zardozi, cutdana, gota or resham. Fabrics used across these designs include organza, tissue silk, net and velvet for tops; tissue silk, American katan silk, organza and jamawar for lehengas; and organza, chiffon or masuri for dupattas. Some designs add a second dupatta or an embellished belt. Check the product page for the exact fabric and work of a design.

The Baraat and the other functions

Ordering in time for your Baraat

Nothing is stitched until you order. Pick a standard size from XS to XL in our size guide, or choose Custom Size and your dress is stitched exactly to the measurements you send; our team contacts you after you order to confirm them. Between two sizes, take the larger one. A bridal design can be changed, for example its colour, sleeves, neckline, length or flare, and anything that adds fabric, embroidery or labour is priced and agreed with you before work starts. While your dress is being made, you can ask for progress photos and close-up videos.

Count back from your Baraat date. For UK addresses, times run in calendar days from the day after you order and cover both stitching and shipping:

  • Normal Delivery: up to 3 months, free
  • Rush Delivery: up to 30 calendar days, £59
  • Super Rush Delivery: up to 14 calendar days, £199

Add at least a week for a try-on, then choose the slowest option that still arrives in time. The same times apply elsewhere in Europe; prices stay in pounds sterling and the delivery charge for a European address is shown at checkout. Import charges are normally prepaid by us: if a courier ever asks you for customs, duty or tax, send us the receipt and we refund the verified amount. A bridal order cancelled within 24 hours is refunded in full; after that and before dispatch, 35% of the amount paid is deducted. Full details are on our delivery information page.
