Wedding Guest Lehengas, Chosen Colour First

A wedding guest lehenga is best chosen by colour, because colour is the easiest thing to get wrong: bright bridal red usually belongs to the bride, while yellow, teal, peach, champagne, lilac and gold look dressed up without competing with her. At Shadi Dress, every guest lehenga starts as unstitched fabric we buy directly from a Pakistani label and is stitched in our own workshops after you order, in designs with a choli, a long blouse or a frock over the skirt. UK delivery takes up to 18 days. Choose a colour and size, then order on the product page.

Lehenga colours for guests, and the ones to leave to the bride

  • Red and maroon: the classic baraat colours for the bride. A maroon or burgundy guest lehenga can work at a reception or a winter party, but at the baraat itself most families expect guests to stay away from bridal red.
  • White, ivory and cream: many brides wear these for the nikkah, and some older relatives in traditional families link plain white with mourning. White or cream lifted with gold or coloured work is the safer way to wear them.
  • Yellow, green and orange: the mehndi palette, bright and made for a night of music and dancing. Save a yellow lehenga for the mehndi or a daytime function rather than the walima.
  • Teal, sea blue, burgundy and black: jewel tones and dark shades for evening functions. Black reads festive when it carries heavy embroidery, sequins or gold.
  • Peach, champagne, lilac, mauve, beige and gold: softer shades for a walima or a reception, as long as the bride has not chosen the same pastel.

If the invitation names a colour theme, that overrides all of the above. If you are unsure, send us the design and the function on WhatsApp before you order.

Choli, long blouse or frock: how much the top covers

The lehenga is the skirt; the top you wear with it decides how formal and how covered the outfit looks.

  • Lehenga choli: a fitted blouse that stops at or above the waist, so the full flare of the skirt is on show. It is the classic look for a reception or an evening party and leaves some midriff bare.
  • Long blouse or long choli: the top runs past the waist towards the hips, covering the midriff while most of the skirt stays in view. It suits a nikkah or a family with a conservative dress code.
  • Frock over the skirt: a flared top worn long over the lehenga, so only the lower part of the skirt shows. It gives the most coverage of the three.

Fabric and weight for a long evening

Organza is crisp, holds the skirt’s shape and shows embroidery sharply. Net is sheer and light, usually worn over a lining, and often carries sequins or zari. Chiffon falls softly and stays cool in a summer marquee. Velvet is the warmest and heaviest of all, a natural pick for a winter wedding in a draughty hall. Hand embroidery, mirror work, patchwork, tassels and sequins all add weight, and you will feel it by midnight.

Getting the size right

Depending on the design, choose a standard size from our size guide, taking the larger size if you fall between two, or Custom Size, stitched to the measurements you send; our team contacts you after you order to collect them. On a lehenga the waist and the skirt length matter most, so where the product page asks for your height, give it without shoes: it sets the length.

When to order, and delivery across the UK and Europe

Allow up to 18 calendar days for a guest lehenga to reach a UK address: the count starts the day after you order and covers stitching and shipping. Three weeks before your first function is a sensible latest order date, leaving a few days to try it on with your shoes and jewellery. For a closer date, message us before ordering, because Rush Delivery and Super Rush Delivery are not normally offered on guest outfits. We deliver to the rest of Europe on the same timings, priced in pounds sterling, with the delivery charge shown at checkout. Import charges are normally prepaid by us; if a courier ever asks you for customs, duty or tax, send us the receipt and we refund the verified amount. The details are on our delivery information page.

A lehenga, or another outfit

If you would rather have trousers with the same swing, a sharara suit flares from the hip and is easier to dance in. Bridesmaids often match by colour, and our matching bridesmaid looks make that simpler. Brides should start with our lehengas made for the bride, which run on their own delivery times, and every other guest silhouette is in our full guest range.

Why choose Shadi Dress for a wedding guest lehenga

Pakistani labels sell many of their lehenga designs as unstitched fabric, and Shadi Dress buys that fabric directly from the label, keeping a purchase record for every article. Nothing is cut until you order: our own workshops stitch it to a standard size or, where the design offers it, Custom Size, and approved size changes or feasible style changes, such as a higher neckline or longer sleeves, cost nothing extra. Ask for a full video before dispatch to see the colour and work before it travels. Import charges are normally prepaid by us, addresses across Europe get the same delivery times as the UK, and more than 20,000 satisfied customers have already ordered from us online.

Questions about guest lehengas

What is the difference between a lehenga and a lehenga choli?

Strictly, the lehenga (also spelt lengha) is the long, full skirt. A lehenga choli is the whole outfit: the skirt, the choli or blouse, and usually a dupatta. Ghagra choli and chaniya choli are other names for much the same outfit. When people shop for a lehenga they normally mean the full set, and the product page lists the pieces included.

Can I order a plus-size lehenga?

Yes, on designs that offer Custom Size. We stitch the lehenga to the measurements you send, so you are not tied to a standard size chart, and our team contacts you after you order to collect them. If a design comes in standard sizes only, compare your measurements with the size guide and take the larger size if you are between two.

How much does a wedding guest lehenga cost?

Every design shows its price in pounds, and the grid can be sorted from low to high. Fabric and the amount of handwork move the price most. The price you see is for the lehenga stitched to your size, and approved size changes or feasible style changes are not added to it.

Can I return a lehenga if it does not fit?

No, because each lehenga is cut and stitched for one customer, so once it has been dispatched it cannot be returned or exchanged. If you change your mind, a cancellation within 12 hours of ordering is refunded in full; later, up to dispatch, 35% of the amount paid is deducted. Careful measurements and the video before dispatch protect the fit.

Is a lehenga Pakistani or Indian?

Both. The lehenga is worn at weddings across Pakistan and India, and the difference lies mostly in the styling: Pakistani guests often pair it with a longer shirt or a frock, while the Indian lehenga choli usually has a short blouse. Ours are cut from Pakistani label fabric and come in both styles, so choose the top that suits the family and the function.
