What the mangni asks of an outfit
The mangni, also called the nisbat or ring ceremony, is smaller than the wedding days: the two families meet, rings are exchanged and the bride-to-be spends much of the evening seated and photographed close up. Work at the neckline, sleeves and dupatta border matters most, because that is what the camera sees. Full sleeves that stop at the wrist keep the ring hand clear. And many brides keep deep red for the baraat, so the engagement look sits lighter.
Choosing the shape
- Lehenga choli: the most festive choice, often layered under a long open-front jacket or a long shirt for more cover; compare our lehengas cut for the bride.
- Lehenga saree: the line of a saree with the drape already set over a lehenga, so there is nothing to pleat on the day.
- Farshi gharara: fitted to the knee, then pooling on the floor; easy to sit in for hours. See the floor-length farshi styles.
- Pishwas or angrakha frock: a long, full frock over a lehenga or trousers; more in our pishwas range.
Shirts come in organza, tissue silk, net or chiffon over tissue silk, katan silk or jamawar, with dabka, zari, salma sitara, sequins and pearls.
If both ceremonies fall on one day
When the engagement and nikkah are held together, dress for the nikkah, with more coverage and a dupatta over the head; ivory and pastel engagement designs often work for both. Start with our outfits made for the nikkah.
Ordering for her, or as a gift
Standard sizes run from XS to XL; between two, choose the larger. For Custom Size we stitch exactly to the measurements you send, and our team contacts you after you order to collect them, so the groom’s side can pass the questions on to her. The workshop works in inches; our size guide shows how to measure. Bridal-range designs offer Full Custom Design: ask for another colour, sleeve or neckline, and any change that adds fabric, embroidery or labour is priced and approved before work starts.
Timing for a UK or European date
Each design page shows its delivery options and an expected date before you order. Bridal-range pieces come with free Normal Delivery in up to 3 months, Rush Delivery in up to 30 calendar days (£59) or Super Rush Delivery in up to 14 (£199). Outfits for mothers and sisters cut from branded label fabric arrive in up to 18 calendar days. Times count from the day after you order and include stitching and shipping; European addresses get the same times, priced in pounds, with the delivery charge shown at checkout. Details on our delivery information page.
Why choose Shadi Dress for Pakistani engagement dresses
Shadi Dress has made bridal wear since 2013, with embroidery and tailoring done in our own workshops in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. On request we send progress photos and close-up videos while a bridal-range piece is being made. A bridal-range order cancelled within 24 hours is refunded in full, and import charges are normally prepaid by us. If a courier ever asks you for customs, duty or tax, send us the receipt and we refund the verified amount.
Engagement dress questions
What colour should I wear for my engagement?
Soft colours photograph well beside the rings and leave the baraat its reds: ivory, ice blue, blush, lilac, sage or peach with silver or rose-gold work. If you want depth, teal or a jewel tone works. Agree one accent colour with the groom so your photographs match; our groom’s sherwani range helps him follow it.
How much do Pakistani engagement dresses cost?
Every design shows its price in pounds, and you can sort the grid by price. Silhouette, fabric and the amount of handwork move the price; on bridal-range designs, any change you request is priced before work starts.
Can I return it if it doesn’t fit?
No. Each outfit is stitched for one person after you order, so there are no returns or exchanges after delivery. Unsure of a size? Ask us on WhatsApp first.
